On February 3. 2015, Lenora B. Smith Elementary 5000 Role Models of Excellence formally welcomed the 2015 class. To commemorate the special day, the boys took part in a wonderfully planned tie-tying ceremony. Watching the men of our community present ties to the boys in our school brought tears to our eyes. Joining many of the men on staff were the men of US Customs and Border Control. Even some fathers lent their support of the event and are pictured here. The highlight of the day, however, was the keynote address from Commissioner Keon Hardemon, Vice Chair of the City of Miami City Commission. This great community leader shared his story of empowerment as a product of Liberty City. His lesson on reputation versus character was one that our boys talked about for the rest of the day. We are excited to have so many strong, male role models invest in our students. A huge thank you to Mr. Chinnery and Mr. Okpala who serve as site coordinators for our school. Additional thanks is extended to our dynamic staff, students, parents and guests who helped to make this day so special.
