Fifth Grade students at Lenora B. Smith Elementary took part in the Alvin Ailey Residency Program during the week of February 8th. The aim of the residency is to educate, inspire and enlighten people of all ages by exposing them to the acclaimed Revelations. Students were given articles and journals to record their work for the week. Vocabulary diagrams and dance routine order charts covered the cafeteria walls. Students knew right away, this was not play time but it was time to work. Students expressed their gratitude to their four instructors on Friday, February 12th by sharing a Valentine's Day treat and card. Melissa Aguiluz read a thank you to the instructors sharing how the week had shaped her life. In this brief presentation, Melissa shared the impact the dance, music and instructors had on her and her classmates. If the mission was to educate and inspire, we say "Mission Accomplished." Dr. Bryant is so pleased this program was brought to Lenora B. Smith Elementary, and thankful to the many donors who helped to get these fabulous dancers to our community Thank you Ms. Nasha and team for your brilliant work and dedication to the students of LBS. The event culminates with students attending an Alvin Ailey performance at the Adrienne Arsht Center next week. Again, thank you!
