Three years ago, the stakeholders of Lenora B. Smith Elementary made a conscious effort to “build” – build students, staff, proficiencies, grades, partnerships, etc. The first year we announced Lenora was “A” School Under Construction. Year two, we were Building on a Solid Foundation: “A” School Under Construction. Significant building took place in those two years culminating with the school grade increase to a C and the removal from the state’s lowest 300 elementary schools in reading. What do you do after a successful building project? You continue to build of course. Building Above “C” Level became the theme for the third year. And although school grades will not be released until the Fall, we know great building took place. You can see it in our PTA, teachers and staff, clubs, awards and honors, Accelerated Reader participation, magnet school and Breakthrough acceptances and most importantly in our students. Preliminary FCAT Science scores have been released showing a 12 percentage point increase over last year. Job well done builders!! You have done what we set out to do three years ago. Congratulations, take a bow! So we retire Building as a theme for Lenora. Why? Because it’s time to sail! For the 2015-2016 school year, we are Sailing into “A” Bright Future. Grab your captain’s hat and join us. It’s going to be a beautiful journey!
